Patricia Leal is an artist, filmmaker and documentarian. She attended the Independent Study Program of Visual Arts at the Maumaus School of Visual Arts in Lisbon, Portugal. When she joined the program, she already had a solid practical background of Filmmaking and Photography. In 2010 she obtained her Master’s Degree in Screen Documentary at Goldsmiths University of London. Leal’s works are displayed either as installation or documentary film that focus on social, cultural and environmental aspects, consistently applying a methodology that entails detailed observation and field work: documenting, co-experiencing and establishing the basis for what she defines as a ‘relational documentary practice’. Her films therefore become a depository for both individual and collective memory and experience. Leal has produced work for commission for the Portuguese television channel (RTP) and several international artists and directors, having collaborated on a variety of projects within the context of theatre, visual and performing arts.
Patricia visited apexart from Lisbon, Portugal, from November 8 - December 8, 2011. She was recommended by Jürgen Bock, Director of Maumaus School of Visual Arts in Lisbon, Portugal. See her Resident Page for more information.
