Nilay Lawson image Nilay Lawson (b. 1980, Würzburg, Germany) received her BFA in Design from the Corcoran College of Art + Design in Washington DC in 2002. She has since been involved in the DC art scene as curator, artist, teacher, and graphic designer. Her work is rooted in painting the day to day activities of urban living. Now it’s expanded to documented street performances, audio capturing, installation and producing projects that open the exchange/collaboration between writers and musicians and artists. Nilay has exhibited nationally and internationally and has recent projects that are inspired by the sights and sounds of mega-cities, specifically Mexico City. She is currently working on an audio exchange with collaboration from musicians between the two federal cities of DC and DF. She has been nominated for a Smithsonian Artist Research Fellowship and is producing a body of work to exhibit with Garash Galeria in DF in 2012. Nilay Lawson participated in an apexart Outbound Residency in Sao Paulo, Brazil from March 1-31, 2012. She was recommended by Casey Smith, Arts and Humanities Chair at the Corcoran College of Art and Design, Washington, D.C. See her Resident Page for more information.
