Kaung Su

Kaung Su was born in 1972 in Yangon, Burma. Between 1991-94, he studied painting with the local artist Pyi Soe Myint, and briefly attended Yangon’s State School Of Fine Arts. He has been a regular participant in exhibitions since 1995 as well as performance art. In 2001, he had his very first one-man exhibition at Lawkanat Gallery in Yangon. In addition to his performance art, Kaung Su is also a video art/short film maker and author of several articles on Arts & Astronomy. In September 2011 he received a Special Mention for the New Vision Award of the Wathan Film Festival, Burma. He has organized three international exchange programs — Ongoing Echoes Art Project — since 2009, and participated in several other foreign art projects. He is a founder/director of Art Rise art-space (Burma) and on the Board of Directors for New Zero Art Space.

Kaung is visiting apexart from Yangon, Burma, from September 13 - October 13, 2012. He was recommended by Rodney Dickson, Cultural Envoy for the US Department Of State in Myanmar. See his Resident Page for more information.

ONE MONTH IN NYC„stayed near the Union Square with apexart !

i landed at JFk with Delta airline on 8pm in September 13, 2012. The weather was fine and the winds colded for me. And then took the yellow cap to apexart ‘s apartment.It  was very first day one for Apexart foundation’s residency program . 

Afternoon, had the lunch with apex art team and Rodney Dickson at Korean Restaurant .The first target for day one was Sky scraper museum . But I lost the way.But I choosed the National museum Of the American Indian ! The Interesting point was “Up where we belong ” that the native musicians in in pop culture..Jemmy Handrix’s  coat of many colours .& Robert son’s custom painted guitar. ..etc…

September 14 for Union Square’s Green market, Circle Line Crusise and Lunch Hours show. The magnificent view of East River /Hudson River and close view of lady liberty ! The other was Lunch Hour show at NYC’s public library. I saw the Frank o’hara’s Lunch Poenm Book(1964 edition !) At this evening. I went to MoMA . The apexart gave the guest card for MoMA..Thank you Apexart !..
